Helplines

We're never alone when we need help. It absolutely does take a village to raise ad child and we're ready for that here in Aotearoa NZ. Check out the links and numbers below for organisations that are waiting for your call if you're ever in need. Most of these sites have helpful links to other resources and services, so do have a look around them to find out more.

Youthline

Like many offerings now, Youthline offers phone, web or text chat. Pass this number on to the young people in your life with the message that it's fine to use it anytime with or without your knowledge. We know that teens and young adults find it hard to talk to parents and caregivers about the big stuff sometimes. Remember all those deep and meaningfuls you had with your parents when you were a teen? Yeah, I didn't think so... It's always better that they get help someplace rather than not at all. Hopefully, they'll feel a bit stronger about coming to you directly - a bit of anonymous chat with someone who's trained to help (and often a young adult themselves) can be the first step in that direction.

Lifeline

Lifeline is there for everyone in Aotearoa, 24/7. They also run Kidsline for little people who'd like to chat, and a suicide crisis helpline if you, or someone you love, is struggling. A text service is also available.

Plunketline

Plunket is a household name for kiwi Mums and Bubs. They run a 24/7 helpline with free health advice and information. This one is obviously targeted at families with very little people. Remember, mental and emotional wellbeing is a big part of your overall picture of health. Also, our physical wellbeing is absolutely connected to our outlook on life. It may be that the experienced folk on the end of the phone can point you in the right direction to get your family the help you need.

What's Up

What's Up has offerings for kids, teens, and families, with options to speak on the phone or chat online. This service comes from the people at Barnados, so you know that there's years of experience and expertise just waiting to help you through.
